Race 2 No. 12 SKYWRITER – ($2.70)

Some unknowns here with a number of first starters in action but SKYWRITER should be hard to beat after a debut performance that saw her finish runner-up at Moe over the 1214m on January 24. The filly from the Chris Waller stable settled just worse than midfield in the small field that day before producing the fastest last 200m to land half a length of Skepticism, putting a gap on the 3rd placegetter, who has since claimed his Maiden at Kilmore. She went 3.8 lengths slower than standard on debut, which is the second best figure that any horse in this race has produced. Improvement to come at her second start and with Jye McNeil in the saddle, the daughter of Written Tycoon can get the job done.

Race 5 No. 4 TAVISTEEL- ($5.50)

We stretch out over the 2200m in Race 5 and TAVISTEEL can chalk up the second win of his preparation. The four-year-old was a winner over the 1400m when fresh at Terang and at her most recent start she stepped out over the 2040m at Moonee Valley, placing 3rd behind The Kings Gospel. She settled handy that evening before sticking on to go 1.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. The daughter of Tavistock was a fourth up winner at her previous preparation and looks to have come back in good order this time around.

Race 1 No. 2 LAURION – ($8)

LAURION can go close to breaking the maiden in the opener at Bendigo. The four-year-old is winless in 11 starts and settled back on what was a slow tempo at Kilmore on January 27, running on for 5th behind Ivan’s Hero. He should take improvement off that run and went close at Bendigo in a couple of goes at his most recent campaign. The Rod Symons-trained galloper has attracted plenty of support in early markets and shouldn’t be too far away in the run from barrier 6.
