Bunbury Tips 28/02/2024

Race 7 No. 4 DIVINE PAIR – ($4)

Jordan Turner produced a peach of a ride to win on DIVINE PAIR at Belmont last start. The horse was racing first-up for Ascot trainer Colin Webster with Turner settling just off the pace. The pair managed to roll off the fence while joining in with the leaders shortly after straightening. Divine Pair took the ascendancy over Devine Flirt inside the furlong to come away for a convincing win. They ran a sharp time which will set Devine Flirt in good stead for this. He will shed 1.5kg for the win with a few horses higher in the benchmarks engaged here. Those three horses should all be up on the speed creating pressure, while still perhaps presenting as a bit soft first-up.

Race 6 No. 2 CRUNCHY NUT ($4.60)

Victoria Corver will be looking to be positive out of the gates with CRUNCHY NUT who was a track and distance winner three starts back. The lightly-raced 3yo ran sharp time to the day, even considering the track rating did seem to race closer to a Good 3. Crunchy Nut was coming straight out of maiden grade and into a Class One with Corver allowing him to free-bowl along in front. Crunchy Nut responded when challenged into the straight by coming away for a strong all-the-way win. Sweated up badly when Brought him to town in a forgive run at Ascot. Crunchy Nut has also raced over the sharper 1200m journey since, and should appreciate getting back out to seven furlongs on Wednesday.

Race 2 No. 9 SPEEDY NOVA ($7)

Happy to side with SPEEDY NOVA as our each-way Value Bet selection. The Brett Pope trained mare has been placed in three out of four starts this preparation. Lucy Fiore moved up to put some pressure on the leader early with Speedy Nova over 1116m here two starts ago. Torpedoman denied her all the way up the straight with Speedy Nova holding her spot for second place. There was good speed on as Fiore took a seat behind the leader over 1008m here last start. Speedy Nova was game in attempting to chase down Magnasonic who just proved too speedy. Speedy Nova gets out to the six-furlongs for the first time in her career on Wednesday. Fiore can cuddle her for as long as possible off the inside draw to help Speedy Nova see out the trip on Wednesday.
