BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.3 GO GETABOY ($3.10 with Neds)
Unbeaten at the track after four starts here, the Roy Chillemi-trained GO GETABOY is second-up today and will take a power of beating in this contest. Last start, the Stratum Star gelding resumed off a lengthy seven-month stint on the sidelines when he fared well to finish third in a Three-Year-Old Hcp over an unsuitable 1000m trip at Townsville. With regular rider Rachel Shred (the ‘Shredder’) on board, he lumped 63.5kgs for his first start back, beaten just 1.5 lengths on the line that day. Back on home soil here, his resume reads four starts for four wins, and two from two at the and distance as well. The Shredder has been on board for nine of his 15 starts and steered him to six of his seven career-wins. Already a winner when second-up, unbeaten here and a four-time winner over the 1250m trip, he drops 9.5kgs today and looks the best on the program.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.5 HOKOLESQUA ($3.40 with Picklebet)
The Fred Wieland-trained HOKOLESQUA is third-up today and back on his home track, he looks set to bounce back here. Last start, the Star Turn gelding had his first look at the Townsville track and things didn’t pan out to well for him that day. He drew the car park in gate 12 (of 13) and from the 1000m chute, that makes life very difficult to win from there. As expected, he was trapped four and five deep and never on the track. He took the turn, eight horses off the fence and his race was already run at that point, going on to in the back half, beaten 3.5 lengths over the line. He draws a gate today, jumping from barrier four, and has visiting Brisbane rider Ryan Wiggins on board for the first time. Already a winner when third-up, allowances can be made for that last start result and back home today, we should see a different horse here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.8 COOPER GEM ($8 with Bet Right)
Having his third start for local trainer Fred Wieland, the former Mick Price/Michael Kent-trained COOPER GEM has improved off his first two starts for the new stable and looks set to threaten this contest today. Last start, the Star Witness mare had just her fifth career-start when she ran home strongly to grab her first podium finish, grabbing third prize in a BM55 Hcp over 1250m when making her debut on the Cannon Park track. Settling near mid-field, Jason Taylor steered her wide on the corner where she took a bit of time to get going. Carrying 60.5kgs that day, she started to find her feet inside the final 150m but was too far back at that point, leaving her to settle for the minor prize in the end. Her strong finish that day turned a few heads and here, she drops 5kgs for this contest and the extra trip will surely suit. She looks great value here and should give us a bold sight today.
