Race 8:  No.8  NEVER CRY  ($3.20 with Ladbrokes)

Local trainer, Steve Massingham, saddles-up a trio of runners here as we run with NEVER CRY who looks the most likely to salute today. Last start, the Pride Of Dubai gelding was fourth-up and showed even more improvement when he clobbered a Class 6 field, here over 1250m. He drew the carpark that day (gate 12 of 12), he was ridden back in the field, settling third-last, eight lengths off the speed. Turning for home, the four-year-old fanned wide and was nearer the outside fence but in the run home, showed an amazing turn-of-foot and passed them all in a flash, going on to put four lengths on them over the line. He draws much better today in gate two and maps to settle mid-field with cover. At his peak today and already a two-time winner at the track and distance, he looks drawn to win.

Race 3:  No.3  TENNESSEE BOY  ($4.80 with BoomBet)

The Roy Chillemi-trained TENNESSEE BOY started this campaign poorly but has shown big improvement of late and looks well placed here to bring up his first win this time in. Last start, the Spill The Beans gelding showed some of his old form when he beat all but one home in Open company, here over 1400m. ‘Lethal’ Lacey (Morrison) was aboard that day and sticks with the five-year-old here. He geta all the favours from gate one and maps to settle in ‘pride of place’, box-seating behind the pace. He has produced two wins and five minor placings from 13 starts at Cannon Park and the scene looks set for another bold effort today.

Race 7:  No.2  ROYAL SONG  ($4.80 with Picklebet)

Townsville galloper NEVER CRY hasn’t missed a beat since joining the Steven Royes stable and after four-straight podium finishes this time in, he look poised to keep the flag flying today. Last start, the Your Song gelding came off a hat-trick of minor placings when he stepped out onto the Cannon Park track for the first time and gave his rivals a galloping lesson as he broke through for his Maiden win over the 1250m trip. He sat outside the leader most of the way, then with Graham Kliese aboard, took control and like all good $2 favourites, went on to win by more than a length on the line. He has settled-in well to Nth Qld’s tropical lifestyle and despite a wide gate here (10), he look set to go on with it in this contest.
