Canberra Preview & Best Bets – 29/03/2024

Canberra Tips for Friday, February 23

Our form expert provides Canberra tips for today’s horse racing at Canberra Racecourse and gives his best bets.

Race 3:  No.8  REET PETITE

Locally-trained by Keith Dryden, REET PETITE has shown consistency by missing just one top-two finish in her six starts to date and looks well-served here to deliver another one today. Last start, the Rubick mare finished second (again) when she came from behind in a BM58 over 1400m at the Sapphire Coast. She dropped back from a 2000m trip the start prior which could have contributed to her downfall that day. The mile trip here looks more suitable today as Tyler Schiller takes the reins for his second ride on the mare. She maps to settle mid-field and with a trouble-free run here, back on home soil, she should prove hard to hold out.

Race 4:  No.3  EVERIDO

Another from the Dryden camp is EVERIDO who is second-up and sporting blinkers for the first time today. Last start, the Supido gelding was fresh off a 17-week spell when he made up good ground to grab third prize in a Class 2 Hcp over 1200m at the Sapphire Coast. Jack Martin remains the pilot for this assignment. Already a winner when second-up and unbeaten in two starts at the track, he looks a good investment here today.

Race 8:  No.7  DORAMI

Local trainer, Norm Gardner saddles-up DORAMI here who is in outstanding form this preparation and looks primed to go on with it in this contest. Last start, the Dissident mare tried to lead all the way but was collared right on the line by a swooper, leaving her with second prize in Open company, here over 1300m. That made it five-straight top-three finishes for the four-year-old and her sixth podium finish in eight starts on her home track. Jason Taylor has accumulated five podium endings from his six rides on the mare and he is back to steer the ship today. Ideally drawn in gate two, she drops back in distance today and looks set for another big finish here.
