BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.12 SHINES ($5.50 with BlueBet)
The Team Hawkes-trained SHINES has his second look at the Canterbury track today and in good touch this time in, looks a genuine winning chance here. Last start, the Dream Ahead gelding made his track debut here and impressed when beating all but one home in a BM72 Hcp over 1250m. He took control inside the last 200m but was grabbed late by a swooper, leaving him with second prize in the event. Jason Collett was aboard that day and sticks with him for this assignment. He draws nicely in gate four and maps to be in the first half dozen on settling. Up against similar company and over the same trip, he should be at his peak now after four starts and must be considered here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.2 SOUTHERN CHILLI ($3.60 with Bet Right)
The Maher & Eustace-trained SOUTHERN CHILLI has won two of her seven career starts to date and makes his NSW debut today. Last start, the Al Maher filly drew wide (11 of 13) and still managed to beat all but one home in a BM64 over 1200m on Sandown’s Lakeside track. James McDonald boasts a 35% strike rate for the stable and takes the reins here. She maps to settle mid-field with cover and looks well placed here in similar company. With a trouble-free run today she can give this contest a real shake.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.5 MEDIA STARGUEST ($6 with Bet Right)
The Ron Quinton-trained MEDIA STARGUEST is three starts into this campaign and looks set for another bold performance on this track. Last start, the Rubick gelding was third-up when he beat all but one home in a BM72 Hcp over 1300m on Randwick’s Kensington track. Tyler Schiller sticks with him today where he is nicely drawn in gate five and maps to settle mid-field behind the speed. The five-year-old boasts track specialist status with six starts here resulting in two wins and three minor placings. Fourth-up today, he was a winner fourth-up last preparation and up against similar opposition here, he looks right in the mix.
