Race 7 No. 1 WHERE’S POPPY- ($3.60)

WHERE’S POPPY just needs to negotiate the wide barrier to take this one out. The Thomas Carberry-trained galloper comes into this with some solid form. He was a BenchMark 58 winner three starts ago and has since finished runner-up at his past two. The most reefing of those came at the track and trip and he settled handy but couldn’t reel in Mayan’s Licence. She went a very healthy 4.1 lengths faster than standard benchmark figures that day, which is nine lengths better that the next best last start figures of any runner. Jaylah Kennedy rides and claims the 3kg.

Race 1 No 11 LONHSTRETTO ($5)

LONHSTRETTO can open up the day with a win. The Daniel Bowman-trained galloper has had the two career starts for two minor placings and comes off a last start 3rd at Bendigo on June 18. That came over the 1100m and the daughter of Dissident led before just going down at the business end behind Walter Spur. She went 5.8 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start benchmark figure of any runner and the second best that any runner in this race has produced. She should have improvement to come at her third run and will take some running down.

Race 5 No 5 SAN MARINO- ($7)

This shapes as a winnable assignment for SAN MARINO. The five-year-old drops down from BenchMark 70 racing and was 3rd at that level when resuming over the 1075m at Swan Hill during their carnival before tackling the 1200m at Sandown and running 5th behind Sig Positano. The son of Rich Enuff led them up that day before just tiring late. Drop back to the 1000m is his go and worth noting that he was a winner in his only run at the track and trip.
