BEST BET 🏆
Race 9: No.5 HELIKEDEMPRETTY
Third-up today, the Robert Heathcote-trained HELIKEDEMPRETTY has enough bases covered here to get the job done. Last start, the Pariah mare came off an impressive first-up win here when she franked that effort by beating home all but one in a Class 2 set weights event over 1200m. Today, she meets similar company and with both career wins to date coming on rain affected tracks, the Soft 6 conditions here look ideal. Noel Callow steers the ship for the first time and ideally drawn in gate four, she maps to settle just behind the speed with first crack at them in the run home. Already a winner when third-up and a winner at the track, she looks the pick of the crop today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.5 VALANTINO ROC
Brian Smith saddles-up VALANTINO ROC here who is second-up and looks well placed for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Rip Van Winkle gelding resumed off a lengthy 22-week break but on fresh legs, still showed too much class to beat home a Class 2 field, here over 1350m. With Marnu Potgieter in the saddle, he settled second in the run, then turning for home took over and left them to sort out the minors, conceding weight to the favourite (Mannerheim) and beating him home convincingly in the process. Potgieter sticks with him today as he takes on similar company over the same track and distance. Drawn nicely in gate five, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and with a trouble-free run today, he looks a serious player in this event.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.6 MILLWARD
The Chris Munce-trained MILLWARD is second-up today and ticks enough boxes here to be considered a good chance of going back-to-back in this contest. Last start, the Al Maher gelding returned to racing after almost 12 months in the paddock when he finished best to win a Class 1 Hcp over 1350m at Ipswich. That was a big effort after so long off the scene. Robbie Dolan is the new pilot for this assignment where the five-year-old boasts a win at the track and both career wins have come on rain affected tracks, so conditions today looks ideal for him. Ideally drawn in gate three, he maps to settle just behind the speed with cover. Already a winner when second-up, he warrants an each-way ticket here.
