Our form expert provides Doomben tips for today’s horse racing at Doomben Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1:  No.2  GHOSTWRITER  ($2 with Ladbrokes)

The Annabel Neasham-trained GHOSTWRITER is high-flying this preparation and looks set here to keep the trend going today. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding made it six-straight podium finishes when he beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp, here over the mile trip. Trying to lead all the way, he led them a merry dance and fought on in the run home but found one just a little stronger on the day and had to settle for second prize. Brodie Loy had his tenth ride on the four-year-old that day and remains aboard for this contest. He is drawn out a little here and with some good early pace inside him, he may have to contend with taking a sit for this event. He is yet to miss a top-two finish in four starts at the track and distance so only the brave would forecast a loss here. We stick with him today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No.7  MIGHTY WILLIE  ($3.40 with TAB)

Chris Waller saddles-up MIGHTY WILLIE here and having recently found his mojo, he looks a serious contender here today. Last start, the American Pharoah gelding came off a good win at Ipswich (in BM65 company) when he just missed claiming back-to-back victories, beating all but one home in a BM68 over 2225m at Eagle Farm. Ryan Maloney was aboard for both rides and has the job again today. He sees the Doomben track for the first time today but now on his game, he can give this event a real shake.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.5  BALDASSARE  (7 with bet365)

The money comes for BALDASSARE as the Snitzel gelding looks a first-class chance of taking this contest out today. Last start, the Robert Heathcote-trained galloper was third-up when he won a BM65 Hcp, here over 1110m. Ben Thompson drove him home that day, sitting three-wide without cover for most of the trip. James Orman has the reins today and ideally drawn in gate two, he gets all the favours here. In from $13 overnight, he is already a track and distance winner and looks a serious player in this line-up.
