BEST BET 🏆
Race 5 No. 3 SHAMATON ($2.40)
Eagle farm trainer Tony Gollan hasn’t found much luck at Doomben Racecourse with SHAMATON with the horse yet to register a win at the track. All that could change on Wednesday as Jimmy Orman takes over from apprentice Angela Jones following the first-up run. Jones landed in a beautiful position just behind the speed to give Shamaton a ripper of a ride. She angled her mount off the fence into the straight to look the winner from a long way out. Ned’s Gully kicked back to worry Shamaton out over the concluding stages of the 1110m event. Going up to 1200 second-up may prove a slight negative, however the kilo drop in the handicaps means the stronger senior can go on and they did run a smart time last start.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2 No. 6 SHEZADANDI ($4.40)
Gold Coast trainer Jason Patton has acquired SHEZADANDI from the Victorian stables of Greg Eurell with a good degree of fitness under her belt. Patton tried her over this track and trip as Shezadandi took her first run for her new trainer. She jumped well for Andrew Mallyon who had her in a lovely spot one-off the fence and handy to the speed. Just got caught behind one going nowhere as the pressure came on with Mallyon finding himself going backwards. The hoop held his mount together before finding a split late to come out after the winner Chayse ‘N’ Artie. Could be tricky in the small field; however, Shezadandi looms as the right horse to follow after watching the way she sit/sprinted to the line last time.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7 No. 3 AMMAND ($6.25)
Toby and Trent Edmonds have found the right race for AMMAND straight after knocking off his maiden at Ipswich. Ryan Maloney gave Ammand a positive ride from their inside gate over this trip to race on the leader’s back. They didn’t go hard in front with Ammand putting paid to them into the straight. Ben Thompson can find a similar handy position from their inside draw as Ammand stays to trip. The CL1 to end the day is an even race on paper with no real up-and-comers engaged. Ammand will strip fitter again and we like that he has the ability to put himself into his races early.
