Race 6:  No.1  PRIME ASSET

Gillian Heinrich saddles-up PRIME ASSET here who is second-up today and looks the pick of the bunch. Last start, the Star Witness gelding was fresh off a five-month absence when he finished second in a Class 4 Hcp, here over 1200m. He chased the leader all the way home but couldn’t reel him in as they ran the trip in 1:10 which on a Soft 7 is a good effort. James Orman has found the podium with him twice previously and has the reins for this assignment. He is well drawn in gate four where he maps to settle near the speed. Already a two-time winner when second-up, he resume also shows he has five top-three finishes at the track and distance from six attempts and with a trouble-free run today, he can improve on those stats here.

Race 3:  No.7  CAXTON LASS

Third-up today, the Robert Heathcote-trained CAXTON LASS showed plenty of improvement last start and going by her efforts that day, she looks right in the mix here to break through for her first win. Last start, the Capitalist filly came off a first-up unplaced run when she stripped a little fitter and managed to beat all but one home in a 1050m Maiden on this track. Martin Harley had his first ride on the filly that day and remains in the saddle for today’s assignment. She draws wide again here in gate 11 (of 12) but with so much early speed in the race, Harley should have her near mid-field with cover. Fitter for those two runs back, a clear run to the line should see her hard to hold out today.

Race 7:  No.1  TWICE ON SUNDAY

The Jack Bruce-trained TWICE ON SUNDAY has been in consistent form this preparation and in the conditions today, looks every chance of going back-to-back in this contest. Last start, the Real Impact mare looked all at home on the Heavy 8 surface when she took out a Class 3 Hcp over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast. She settled back in the field that day and simply finished too strong for them, relishing the conditions. Jake Molloy steered her to a top-three finish two starts back and returns as the pilot for today’s assignment. She steps-up in distance today and is yet to win beyond 2000m but has made the podium in both attempts to date. Placed at the track and trip and in winning form, she looks set to give this a real shake today.
