Race 6 No. 14 TAPO – ($4.80)
The outside gates at Echuca Racecourse haven’t harmed the chances of riders who take the initiative early. Rose Hammond can do exactly that on TAPO who is a consistent speedster that will strip fitter for two runs back. Drew the inside to break her maiden when leading all the way over 1100 metres here at Echuca. Stepped to a fillies and mares benchmark 64 over the same at Bendigo second-up. Tapo pinged the lids for Hammond to lead them up before being nabbed by Jezoulenko on the line. Comes to an open sex 64 now while stripping fitter third-up.

Race 1 No. 4 LAST DITCH EFFORT – ($8.60)
Albury trainer brings LAST DITCH EFFORT to Echuca Racecourse on Wednesday as a maiden who has been caught on the line in both career runs to date. Showed speed to follow the leader on debut last prep over 1065 metres at Wagga. Looked all but home despite wanting to get the head up in the air and not really stretching out properly when letting down. Last Ditch Effort was beaten by a nose on the line by one storming late with Beer tipping him out following the run. Had to dodge and weave to find the gaps when resuming over 1118 metres at Kyneton when resuming. Last Ditch effort took the gap back to the inside and sprinted sharply inside the furlong. Nabbed again by one storming home late and is only a matter of time before last Ditch Effort breaks his maiden status.

Race 7 No. 4 GARGANTUAN – ($7.50)
Bendigo trainer Erin Maher has kept the runs spaced for GARGANTUAN who is racing second-up from a two-month break. Has shown ability in his short career to date, including leading under pressure to succumb late on the Morphettville Parks track. Jumping from an inside gate on that tighter circuit would not have been ideal for the aptly named Gargantuan. The horse who beat him was a local by the name of Pudding who has proven himself in higher grades since. Gargantuan continues to race well and boasts a strong second-up record. The straight run out of the chute at Echuca Racecourse will also suit him a lot better than the turning parks track.
