BEST BET 🏆   

Race 3 No. 6 KALBARRI – ($3.35)

We noted Kalbarri as a horse to follow out of the review of his debut performance at Murray Bridge. The horse got back to last early over 1000 metres under Jacob Opperman before pulling as the widest runner into the straight. He continued to run on late as the stablemate In My Room romped away for a big win in sharp time. Punters then kept Kalbarri firm in the market for a good maiden on paper. Settled around midfield before gradually working into the race on his lonesome up the middle. All the action was closer to the fence with Kalbarri finishing less than two lengths from those. This would seem a drop in class, particularly as race times were slow to track rating all day last time. May pay to let those times slide a little from that meeting.

Race 5 No. 1 MEG’S MAGIC ($3.40)

Outside gate is the only thing stopping us from naming MEG’S MAGIC as the Best Bet for Gawler Racecourse on Wednesday. Phillip Stokes sent the filly over to his base in South Australia to taste immediate success during a Saturday Metro over this track and trip. She was given the run of the race under Todd Pannell before careering away along the fence shortly after straightening. She did come back to them somewhat inside the last 100 metres with the race all done and dusted in smart time. Has raced twice more in city grade since and comes into this as the top weight as a 3yo filly. Stable could have claimed, though have opted not to at this later stage of the season.

Race 2 No. 8 EXALTED KATE ($14)

Strathalbyn trainer Jyi Lukey brings his mare EXALTED KATE to Gawler Racecourse on Wednesday with the benefit of two trials under her belt. Exalted Kate hadn’t been asked of much in either trial under apprentice rider Polly Brewster. Brewster allowed her mount to find her feet early on both occasions before working home late. Exalted Kate got over the early leader to take out the first trial at Oakbank before running up behind the quinella on the Parks track. This does not appear to be an overly strong maiden, and Exalted Kate may run well fresh during most of her races.
