Race 7:  No.1  BAT OUT OF HELL

Third-up today, the Ciaron Maher-trained BAT OUT OF HELL ticks enough boxes to suggest he is major contender for the big prize in this event. Last start, the Hellbent gelding came off a minor-money finish at Gosford when he took on the city gallopers and couldn’t finish off against BM72 company over the 1400m trip. He returns to the country scene today and drops in grade as well with Dylan Gibbons as the new pilot. He gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to settle near mid-field on the fence. Given soft a run to the turn, he should have plenty left to lay down a challenge in the run home. Already a winner when third-up and placed at the track and distance, he looks the one they have to hold out here.

Race 4:  No.7  SIDE SHOW

The Rosehill-based SIDE SHOW makes his Hawkesbury debut today and fitter for two runs back, looks a serious player in this contest. Last start, the Trapeze Artist gelding came off a minor placing in a Randwick maiden over 1150m when he stepped up to the 1250m trip on the same track (Kensington) and finished third again with Josh Parr aboard that day. He finished strongly in both runs and the 1400m today looks ideal for him. He does no early work from gate four and has Tommy Berry at the new pilot for this assignment. Coming off city class competition here, he looks set for a big effort today.

Race 2:  No.4  MANHATTAN’S

The Brad Widdup-trained MANHATTAN’S is third-up today and should be ready to rock. Last start, the Hellbent filly came from last to finish fifth in a BM64 over 1400m at Newcastle. A few changes here may see her luck change as Kerrin McEvoy steers the ship for the first time while Widdup has decided to remove the nose roll and slap the blinkers on the three-year-old for the first time as well. She is already a winner when third-up and has saluted over the track and distance previously. If she can settle a little closer today, she will be fit enough now to show her best in the run home.
