Race 5:  No.5  SLIPPIN’ JIMMY

David Vandyke saddles-up SLIPPIN’ JIMMY here who is second-up today and coming off Provincial form, looks a real threat in this contest. Last start, the Pariah gelding resumed off a 14-week spell and in unfavourable conditions, finished unplaced in a Three-Year-Old Open event over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast. On a Heavy 8 that day, the 1000m was a little short for him, beaten just over three lengths on the day. Ryan Wiggins is the new pilot today and fitter for thast first-up run, he looks a real winning chance in this easier affair.

Race 4:  No.1  KOBE ASCOT

The Toowoomba-based KOBE ASCOT has been in great touch (without winning) this time in but looks all set here to break through for his maiden win today. Last start, the Kobayashi gelding finished bridesmaid for the third time when he beat all but one home in a Beaudesert Maiden over 1100m. With Kirk Matheson aboard, he handled the Heavy 8 conditions well, hitting the line strongly to claim the second prize. Matheson sticks with him here and from gate four, maps to settle on or near the speed. At his peak after four starts back, a trouble-free run should see him there at the finish.

Race 9:  No.9  ISLAND TIDE

Another from the Vandyke stable is ISLAND TIDE who is third-up today and looks poised to go one better here. Last start, the All Too Hard mare showed plenty of improvement to beat all but one home in a BM58 over 860m at Gatton. She led on settling but was out-bobbed on the line with a lack of race fitness being her most likely enemy that day. Cejay Graham has been in the saddle for her two starts back and remains in charge again for this assignment. She has drawn wide (gate 14) but her early gate speed sees her settling better than mid-field here. Already placed twice in two previous third-up appearances, she looks ready to tackle this contest and be there at the finish today.
