Race 6:  No.1  BETTER THAN BOOZE  ($3.40 with Ladbrokes)

Another from the Brosnan stable is BETTER THAN BOOZE who is second-up today and looks a major player in this field. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding resumed off a 20-week break when he beat all but one home in a BM62, here over 1200m. He settled back in the field that day and just gave them too much start on the day. He drops back in grade today and comes off a Gold Coast trial, (which he won). Amy Graham had the reins for that trial and has the job here as well. After her claim, the five-year-old carries just 1.5kgs more than last start and is well served here at the gates, jumping from barrier five today. Already a track and distance winner and yet to miss a podium finish in three starts on the Kilcoy track, he should take a power of beating in this contest.

Race 2:  No.3  ZUKES  ($6.50 with Picklebet)

Gold Coast trainer, Maryann Brosnan saddles-up ZUKES here who impressed on debut and looks much better placed here for a second-start victory today. The Encryption gelding had it all to do on debut when he was allocated 60kgs and drew the outside gate (10) for his appearance on a race track. With Danny Peisley in the saddle, the three-year-old was never on the track and took the turn even wider. He still hit the line well without giving up and will only improve off that debut effort. Peisley sticks with him for this assignment and from gate three, does little to no work at barrier rise. Dropping 2kgs for this contest, he looks one of the main contenders today.

Race 5:  No.5  WORTHY’S GIRL  ($9.50 with Bet Right)

Desleigh Forster saddles-up WORTHY’S GIRL here who is third-up today and meeting easier opposition in this contest. Last start, the Better Than Ready mare came off a first-up minor placing on this track when she tackled a 1200m Maiden at Doomben. With Kirk Matheson aboard, she jumped from gate 10 (of 11) and after easing back at the start, couldn’t go with them when it mattered and finished down the track that day. Better placed here at country level, the stable fit the tongue tie for the first time today and drawing gate four, she maps to settle a lot closer here. Matheson sticks with her and she looks well worth an each-way ticket today.
