This looks to be a suitable assignment for BLACK ZOUS. The Jerome Hunter-trained galloper has had four runs this time in for a couple of minor placings, while he has had excuses in the other two. At his most recent run, the five-year-old stepped out at Geelong and sat three and four deep before running home for 3rd over the 1330m. He comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner and gets the large claim for Logan Bates, who is one from three for the stable.

INEXORABLE can go close in the opener at Kyneton. The Grahame Berg-trained galloper has had the two career starts and was runner-up on debut on the Ballarat Synthetic last June over the 1100m before heading to Caulfield and running an unlucky 5th behind Mollynickers. That form looks good for this and early market support suggests that he should be ready.
