BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.1 SAVVY LAD ($4.20 with Palmerbet)
Grafton galloper, SAVVY LAD, made his intentions clear in the Cup Prelude and all things going well, he can add this cup to his trophy cabinet today. Last start, the Savabeel gelding came off a win in the Tygalgah Cup at Murwillumbah when he franked that victory by going back-to-back in the Lismore Cup Prelude, here over 2120m. Carrying 61kgs (and Matty McGuren) that day, he destroyed his rivals, putting almost three lengths on them over the line. It was an impressive Cup trial as McGuren sticks with him today. He drops 2.5kgs for this assignment and from gate four, he maps to settle in the first half dozen, just behind the speed. He is in career-best form this campaign, finding the podium four times from his six starts and looks a serious player in the Cup today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.8 MAXIMUM VORTEX ($3.60 with BoomBet)
Trained at Ballina by Ethan Ensby, MAXIMUM VORTEX returns to the country scene today and looks set to give this contest a real shake. Last start, the Kuroshio gelding raised the bar when he took on a BM75 field over 1110m at Doomben and found the city class gallopers just a little too slick on the day, finishing down the track, beaten seven lengths in the end. Drawing the outside gate (12) that day didn’t enhance his chances. He sees the Lismore track for the first time today but has a strong record against country competition, where all three career-wins came at the Grafton track. Matthew Palmer has been aboard for the four-year-old’s last three runs and turns up here again for today’s assignment. A big drop in class today sees him right in the mix here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 2: No.5 BELLE TYCOON ($4.40 with Bet Right)
The Ballina-based BELLE TYCOON is in career-best form this time in and looks a serious player in this contest. Last start, the well-bred Written Tycoon mare went back-to-back when she arrived in time to claim victory in a BM50 over 1410m at Grafton. Noriyuki Masuda was aboard for her last starts and remains in the saddle today as both horse and jockey shoot for the hat-trick. She drops 2kgs here and has a 4kg pull in the weights over topweight (and odds-on favourite) Centre Bounce (who draws wide and sees the Lismore track for the first time). She gets the gun-run today from gate one and maps to be box-seating on settling. With an easy run here, she looks to have a slight edge and is capable on making it three in a row today.
