Morphettville Tips 15/04/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 7 No. 1 YURI ROYALE – ($5)

Morphettville Trainers Richard & Chantelle Jolly sent YURI ROYALE over 1300 metres on the Parks track first-up. The quality field just jog-trotted early to set it up for those in front while Yuri Royale had settled near the tail. Jake Toeroek had him off the bit once they sprinted and Yuri Royal continued to build into the bridle on turning. He really found his rhythm late, particularly as another quality galloper in My Khalifa ranged outside him. Those two horses went to the line together with the former finishing amongst the placings. Fitter for another run since and can settle closer to the speed here under Sheriden Tomlinson.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 10 No. 1 SHIRSHOV – ($5)

Phillip Stokes has the privilege of training in the famous Clarke family colours as SHIRSHOV resumed at Morphettville. Gary Clarke surely acquired Shirshov from James Cummings with the aim to race up north; however, the gelding’s ability means he is likely to continue to compete down south. He made a mess of the start before mustering into a position. Shirshov was trucking from a long way out under Jake Toeroek and seemed to want to keep onto his Sydney leg into the run. Exploded into the clear as the run came back nearer the fence inside the furlong to score. Sent out as race favourite last time despite jumping from a wide gate on the tighter Parks track. Showed plenty of ticker to sit on the speed and score under Gary Lo. Racing out of the chute looks ideal with Shirshov getting over the top of them late.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5 No. 3 SCENIC HOST – ($11)

Mount Gambier horseman Michael O’Leary scratched SCENIC HOST from a winnable midweek race to have his mare resume in town. She raced well here last prep, including a close second to Nana Dulce over this track and trip. Jacob Opperman jumped on board as Scenic Host bolted in at her next start. That was over 1250 metres on the Parks track where she raced away to score by over three and a half lengths. She races well first-up and we must respect the O’leary stable when they bring their horses to town. Weather forecast during the week is not clear, and Scenic Host is well proven on all surfaces ranging from Good to Heavy.
