BEST BET 🏆   

Race 4 No. 2 HUMBOLDT – ($2.60) 

We black booked three horses out of the fast-run race won by Billie Bronx at Gawler Racecourse last weekend. The winner sat close to the speed as the field ran along before she scooted clear with a quick last 600m. Kelsey Hannan had HUMBOLDT out the back early from their wide gate. She worked her mount between horses into the clear on turning. The pair were a long way off the winner as they came as the widest runner on straightening. Humboldt continued on his sustained run to clock the fastest last 600m of the race while running strongly through the line. Humboldt has race fitness on his side while he has also shown to handle all surfaces.

Race 1 No. 2 MANZALA – ($5)

Happy to keep chipping away with the ever consistent MANZALA who has given backers a great sight this prep. Maggie Collett steered him home a winner in a much deeper race over this track and trip four starts ago. Found another consistent runner too good over the same in Call Me Vexatious with his following start on Boxing Day. Manzala over raced off the slow tempo through the early stages at Murray Bridge last start. He relaxed much better as Collett allowed him to stride closer to the speed. The pair were left a sitting duck up the long straight of Gifford Hill as Jason Holder called upon all of his experience to get Wisaka home over the top of them late. Aaron Purcell no longer has the luxury of utilising Holder as Wisaka moves up in the weights. Manzala Looks well-placed to turn the tables for trainer Ashton Downing who can keep Collett on the horse for Saturday’s return bout.

Race 2 No. 6 FRANCE’S BOY – ($13) 

Maggie Collett got them all off the bit and chasing the John Hickmott & Carrina Riggs trained FRANCE’S BOY at Gawler Racecourse two starts ago. The evergreen ten-year-old was simply too fast for his opposition as he ground them into the ground in the pouring rain. Most of his wins have come that way. He is best when the apprentices just let him run instead of trying to rate him out in front. Forget his last start with Gifford Hill being a whole different kettle of fish. France’s Boy is a horse who handles most surfaces and remains low in the weights under Collett.
