Race 7 No. 1 MONTIGN ($14)

Perennial #SABlackbookers horse MONTIGN resumes off a soft trial at Murray Bridge where he did enough to go to the line in front. Sophie Logan kept a good hold of the horse who raced forward throughout in a trial where they didn’t break any records. That was the sort of trial we wanted to see from Montign who sprints best with an edge of freshness. Montign boasts a winning strike rate of around 50% of his seventeen-career race starts. He handles all sorts of going while winning to open grade as a sprinter-miler. There is every bit of belief that we are yet to see the top of Montign. He can win first-up at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday for the Stuart Padman stable while enroute to bigger and better things.

Race 9 No. 6 SABERMETRIC ($10.20)

Proven weight carrier SABERMETRIC can get us home in the last metropolitan race of the season. We can’t find any vision of a  jumpout that Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle may have given him in the lead-up to Saturday. We can still be rest assured that they’ll be wanting to keep Sabermetric’s first-up record intact. Barend Vorster was the man on top as Sabermetric trucked into the race before coming away for an eight-length win when resuming last time in. That was on a soft 6 track over 1050 metres here during the midweeks. Vorster again guided Sabermetric home a few starts later, this time over this track and trip on a good surface. Stable senior Lachlan Neindorf takes the ride on Saturday and can give Sabermetric the run of the race from an ideal gate.

Race 4 No. 4 EXALTED RUTH ($13.20)

We backed EXALTED RUTH with a fair bit of confidence last start on the Morphettville Parks track. The mare was coming off a third-up win over 1800 metres here on a heavy surface. She was a proven winner over the track and trip who had also caught the eye when racing second-up. Sophie Logan gave us a treat of a ride aboard Exalted Ruth, who for whatever reason, just did not let down. Exalted Ruth came from further back off a slower tempo to score at her previous start, while also sprinting sharply off a good tempo second-up. Why on earth she didn’t let down last start is simply beyond any reasoning that could be found in a form guide. The forced change of stable scenery may do the trick, and we’ll stick with Exalted Ruth to bounce back her best on Saturday.
