Race 6 No. 7 ZERO INN – ($4.40)

Local mare ZERO INN opened her prep with two wins, including a second-up victory over this track and distance. Jake Toeroek just controlled the race from the front as they moved along at an even tempo. He clicked her up into the straight with Zero Inn justifying her short quote as she powered through the heavy conditions to score. Jordan Frew has tried his hand in town with her in two runs since where they found Cullen Skink too good at Morphettville. Zero Inn ran a brave race again at metro level over this track and trip last time out. She was inclined to over-race outside the leader in the fast-run race. She stuck on gamely for third and should appreciate coming back to provincial grade on Friday as Jason Holder comes into the saddle.

Race 7 No. 3 SALUTE THE STARS – ($4.20)

Emma Hubbard has made the early call to scratch SALUTE THE STARS from a race on Strathalbyn Cup Day. She’s chosen to run at Gifford Hill on Australia Day rather than racing at home on Sunday. This looks a far better race on paper for Salute The Stars who has just missed out by narrow margins in his last two starts. Salute The Stars had the misfortune of running into the in-form Hobo Bob over a mile at Strathalbyn last time. Teagan Voorham appeared set to pinch the race as she sent Salute The Stars for home on the turn. They looked all over a winner until Bob got his nose down on the line. There are no Hobo Bob’s in this race on Friday and Salute The Stars gets his chance to win on Australia Day.

Race 4 No. 5 THE BIG CHUNK – ($8)

There should be good pressure up top to suit THE BIG CHUNK in the second race at Murray Bridge Racecourse on Friday. He debuted over 900 metres at home for Murray Bridge trainer Jordan Frew on New Year’s Day. The Big Chunk found them all a bit too slick through the early stages before working into it late under Ben Price. Regular stable rider Sam Payne took the ride last start as Frew sent The Big Chunk out to Strathalbyn. The pair found themselves coming back from an outside alley as the field ran along. The Big Chunk made plenty of ground between horses to run second and will be suited here at Gifford Hill.
