PUKEKOHE
BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.2 ARBY ($3.25 with BoomBet)
In a real family affair here, we are running with ARBY to take out this black-type contest today who is in top form and looks well placed here to bring up win number three. Last start, the Proisir gelding made it two wins from his past three starts when he won the Group 3 Manawatu Classic (2000m) at Awapuni. This looks no harder and three starts back, he won his maiden on this track. The training team of Darryn and (daughter) Briar have this three-year-old racing in great touch and Darryn’s son Sam is on board for his seventh ride on the galloper. Carrying the same weight today, he should be finishing-on strongly again and prove hard to hold out.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8: No.4 HABANA ($5.50 with bet365)
The Lance Noble-trained HABANA has won four of his past five starts and looks ideally placed here to bring up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Zoustar gelding made it two on the trot when he hung on gamely to take out a BM86 Hcp, here over 1400m. With Warren Kennedy on board, he wore down the front-runner and held off the others for a gutsy win (bringing up a treble for Kennedy that day). Winning form is good form and the four-year-old looks a genuine chance of continuing with that in this contest.
RICCARTON
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No.2 NOBLE KNIGHT ($2.60 with bet365)
The Sandy Cunningham-trained NOBLE KNIGHT has strung together five-straight top-two finishes and looks well placed here for another one today. Last start, the Ghibellines gelding finished best to take out a BM75, here over 2000m. He took over inside the final 200m and fought off the challenges to take home the major prize. Kavish Chowdhoory has been aboard for the galloper’s past five starts and remains in saddle today for this assignment. This looks no harder and despite carrying 2kgs extra, he is a two-time winner at the track and still looks the testing material here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 9: No.7 CAPO DELL IMPERO ($11 with BoomBet)
The Team Anderton-trained CAPO DELL IMPERO showed enough last start to suggest he could play a hand at the finish in this contest today. The Ghibellines gelding came off an unplaced finish in the Hororata Gold Cup when he turned that effort around by destroying his rivals in a BM88 Hcp, here over 2000m last week. He put three lengths on them that day and he is on trial here under wight-for-age conditions. He is a two-time winner at the track and loves the wet, boasting three wins on rain affected tracks. On a seven-day back-up here, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
