BEST BET 🏆  

Race 6 No. 2 GLOBAL EMPIRE ($2.10)

We’re betting a case of pace without pressure will be enough to see GLOBAL EMPIRE get over the line first at Newcastle Racecourse on Thursday. He railed through to lead when claimed close to the line first-up over 1000 metres at Kembla Grange. Similar story again when fought on doggedly to no avail over 1100 metres at Canterbury. Global Empire found no such luck to lead last start as he stepped up to the 1200m for the first-time last start. Nash Rawiller tried to take a sit on the gelding who lumped 60kgs and couldn’t get in from the wide gate. Global Empire ran a credible race just behind the placegetters with the inside horse shifting him out further. There does not appear to be anything here who can match the early speed of Global Empire who has drawn to score under Rory Hutchings.

Race 3 No. 2 IRISH ANTHEM ($12.20)

Rory Hutchins took the ride aboard IRISH ANTHEM who was having his third start for trainers Jason Attard & Lucy Keegan-Attard. They came back towards the rear of the field early at Kembla Grange before peeling as the widest runner into the straight. The slow early pace had sealed his fate with Irish Anthem getting to them late to run third in a blanket go. The horse had put the writing on the wall with his previous start which was over this track and distance. Brandon Lerena found his path blocked as he tried to make ground back towards the inside. Lerena was forced to check and circle off the heels of the field on Irish Anthem who ran home strongly, albeit a long way from the first two horses. May be looking for further though has the makings of a genuine racehorse.

Race 2 No. 1 ALL ABOUT OLLIE ($8.50)

Bruce cross was perhaps a little unlucky not to have knocked off a maiden win for ALL ABOUT OLLIE at Gosford last start. Jess Taylor had allowed the horse to find his feet early in typical fashion before getting home late. The winner did shift outwards notably, though there probably weren’t too many complaints after the race. All About Ollie did get to within a head of the winner while leaving a margin back to the rest. The run follows a similar placing off the back of a slow tempo over the mile here. The query is that Taylor will be getting back on All About Ollie again in a race where there doesn’t look to be a lot of tempo.
