Race 8: No.4 LEOPARDI ($5 with bet365)
The Brett Cavanough-trained LEOPARDI is second-up off a five-month break but looks a likely improver and is capable of showing up here. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding finished unplaced in a BM58 Hcp over an unsuitable 900m at Scone. She settled last of the ten runners and just didn’t get into the race, beaten just over two lengths on the line. The stable have fitted a lugging bit for today’s contest as Mitchell Bell has his first ride on the five-year-old. The step-up to the 1200m today looks ideal and fitter for that first-up run, he looks a genuine chance in this field.

Race 6: No.7 VELVET LADY ($8.50 with Picklebet)
John Ramsey saddles-up VELVET LADY here who is third-up today and ticks the important boxes that suggest she is a real threat in this year’s Cup. Last start, the Tarzino mare was having her first start for the Ramsey stable (formerly with Kris Lees) where she wasn’t disgraced although finishing unplaced in the BM64, here over the mile on the main course. Ramsey makes a gear change today, removing the tongue tie and has booked a new rider with Dylan Gibbons taking the mount. She is already a winner third-up and her only run on the Beaumont track resulted in a win (over this distance) as well. The extra trip looks ideal for her today and down in weight off her last start, the five-year-old can give this a real shake at odds.

Race 2: No.3 DECEIVE ($9.50 with Palmerbet)
The John Thompson-trained DECEIVE sees the Beaumont track for the first time today and looks well placed to make it two-straight. Last start, the Deep Field mare came off a 22-week spell when she brought up her first win in a Hawkesbury Maiden Hcp over 1000m. Keagan Latham steered her to victory that day and sticks with the mare for this assignment. The four-year-old has plenty of upside and ideally drawn in gate three, she looks right in the mix here and is well worth an each-way ticket today.
