Pinjarra Tips 18/02/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 1 RIVER RUBICON – ($2.70)

The punters can get it right again with RIVER RUBICON who was well backed to score recently at Ascot. Shaun McGruddy produced a gem from the back as River Rubicon had picked up her rivals well inside the furlong. She had been unlucky with her start prior when upholding a protest over Kohli for interference prior to straightening. We wrote her name into the #WABlackbookers file for RacingBase earlier into the prep, and we are keen to follow River Rubicon again on Saturday.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4 No. 3 SOCKOFF – ($5)

Trainer Dion Luciani has his speedy filly SOCKOFF coming back to the 1200 metres following a tough run over seven furlongs. She had burnt off Seeable while flying along in front before giving a kick into the straight. Sockoff was still clear down to the 200m before River Rubicon and co ran past as she felt the pinch. Brilliant winner of the Epona Classic over this trip at Ascot three starts back in a sharp overall time. She’s a three-time winner here who should lead without pressure under Holly Watson and give them something to chase.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7 No. 7 MIA GUSTO – ($15)

There appears to be enough pressure in the Listed 3yo feature to see Clint Johnston-Porter getting over them late on MIA GUSTO. Porter produced a gem on the filly first-up when Mia Gusto walked out of the gates a length astern of the field. She showed that she can be push-button material when sprinting sharply after being forced to wait for a run. Mia Gusto came away to win that 1100m at race at Ascot in sharp time. She has jumped better in both runs since and may have found herself a little too close to them when thereabouts second-up. Failed to flatter last time out, beaten around three lengths to Wild Belle. Mia Gusto will be better suited to this trip and can bounce back with the expected pressure on up front.
