Port Augusta Tips 05/05/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1 No. 8 CAVALLINO ($5.50)

Training duo Darren Magro & Aimee Bush found a strong start to the Port Augusta racing season with a double during the opening meet. The pair will have CAVALLINO racing fitter for his tough on-speed performance over this track and trip a fortnight ago. Felicity Atkinson played follow the leader on Cavallino as Sheezahiflya set a fast tempo out in front. Cavallino put that runner to bed on turning before being set upon by the winner Toorak Blaze and also Tuff Operator. Cavallino battled gamely to take third against the pattern of the day in a race that had some depth.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5 No. 2 REGAL ROCKET ($4.85)

Murray Bridge trainer Garret Lynch has REGAL ROCKET racing well at present. The horse is a recent winner over a similar trip in a good race at Port Lincoln. Lynch found a thin field on paper in which to kick off his Port Augusta campaign a fortnight ago. Regal Rocket missed the kick before hunting up under Sairyn Fawke to be in around a midfield position. The winner Shalaga had come from just off the speed to burst clear into the straight. Regal Rocket gave chase while making some headway on that horse. The winner ran a sharp time and looks to be in for a solid prep. Regal Rocket also impressed while coming away from the others and meets similar again on Sunday.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8 No. 11 AXECAPITAL ($16)

Rochelle Milnes gave AXECAPITAL a beautiful run through the early part here a fortnight ago. The speed had been clamped on from the start with Axecapital travelling comfortably behind the leading division. Milnes was forced to take hold and wait with Axecapital with a couple of those in front coming back onto her. She just had to check again inside the furlong as the winner Badiss rushed past with momentum. She managed to rebalance Axecapital who hit the line hard inside the last 100m. Axecapital ran fourth while passing his first test at Port Augusta Racecourse with flying colours.
