BEST BET 🏆

Race 1:  No.2  GULF OF TOMINI  ($3.20 with Ladbrokes)

Almost half the field here are last-start winners, making life interesting to kick-off the meeting. The locally-trained GULF OF TOMINI gets our nod who boasts a strong resume and on home soil, may have the edge today. Last start, the Not A Single Doubt gelding came off a four-week freshen-up and it had a positive affect as he fought on strongly to take out a BM58, here of over the 1500m trip. He ran it out, 4.5 lengths slower than benchmark, still 9 lengths quicker than his rivals here. He also recorded the fastest 800m to 200m sectionals in the race. Luke Rolls was aboard that day and after steering the four-year-old to all four career wins to date, remains in the saddle for today’s assignment. He won fourth-up last preparation and already a winner here, he can go back-to-back today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.5  MICHIEVOUS MOLLY  ($6 with Palmerbet)

The Wayne Wilkes-trained MISCHIEVOUS MOLLY is Taree-based but her two starts here ended in top-two finishes and fourth-up today looks well set to keep the good form going in this contest. Last start, the Sooboog filly was third-up and coming off consecutive runner-up finishes when she went one better and broke through for her maiden win, here over 1500m. Settling outside the leader, she had the job of taking the field up for the challenge and in the run home, took over on straightening and just keep going, winning by more than a length on the line. Andrew Gibbons has been aboard for every start since resuming and sticks with the filly again today. She steps-up in class here but is now a track and distance winner who still has plenty of upside. Well drawn in gate five, she should take beating here again.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.15  JET PACK  ($11 with Picklebet)

Formerly with the Nathan Doyle stable, JET PACK took next to no time to settle-in with new trainer Cameron Crockett and boasting a strong a resume since, looks a genuine winning chance here, at odds today. Last start, the Fastnet Rock gelding resumed off an 18-week break where he finished mid-field over the 1000m sprint at Muswellbrook with Mitchell Bell aboard that day. Prior to that, he had back-to-back wins at Mudgee and Scone before hitting the paddock. This will be his first run at the track since changing stables where he is unbeaten in two starts over the 1200m trip. Ash Morgan has strong credentials here with four previous rides resulting in two wins and a runner-up finish. He hasn’t been on the four-year-old for more than 18-months so its fitting he has the ride today (after being on board for those two 1200m wins here). The stable are removing the blinkers again and fitter for one run back, he looks a solid each-way investment today.
