Rockhampton Tips for Tuesday, January 16

Our form expert provides Rockhampton tips for today’s horse racing at Callaghan Park Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.4  SHAMEDY  ($1.85 with bet365)

Just half a dozen runners will face the starter here as we run with the local galloper, SHAMEDY to get the job done today. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding was second-up and showed plenty of improvement when he beat all but one home in Open company over 1300m at Mackay. He settled mid-field and was doing his best work late but was unable to run down the leader in the end. Up in trip today, Tahlia Fenlon is legged aboard for the first time and after her claim, the three-year-old will carry 52.5kgs which is 1.5kgs under the limit here. Boasting track specialist status, the gelding has saluted here in four of his six starts and looks the benchmark for this contest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6:  No.2  BUSH DIAMOND  ($3 with bet365)

In a rather open affair here, the Clinton Taylor-trained BUSH DIAMOND looks well placed among them and ticks enough boxes to have us interested in his winning chances today. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom gelding was second-up off a six-month absence when he came from mid-field to grab third prize in a tight finish, here over the 1050m trip. Regular rider, Justin Stanley was aboard that day and after steering him to victory twice previously, he has the job again in the contest. Already a winner when third-up, he should be fit and ready to tackle this assignment and have us finishing the meeting on a high today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 2:  No.3  DRAGON’S SNIP  ($8.50 with Bet Right)

The locally-trained DRAGON’S SNIP is in great touch of late and already a track specialist, looks set for back-to-back wins in this contest. Last start, the Hidden Dragon gelding made it win number three at Callaghan Park when he took out a Three-Year-Old Hcp, here over 1050m. Justin Stanley returns today for his second ride on the three-year-old who comes up with gate six and maps to be on the speed from the outset. Well-seasoned this time in with nine starts behind him now, he looks well-placed in Class 3 company today and holds strong claims for victory here at odds.
