BEST BET 🏆
Race 6 No. 1 MISS ICELANDIC ($1.95)
Very willing to take on the daughter of Black Caviar, I Am Caviar, in Race 6 and it is MISS ICELANDIC that is the one. The four-year-old from the Matt Laurie stable was solid when sticking on for 5th in an excellent form race behind Empressive Enuff two starts ago at Flemington over the 1200m before dropping to the 1000m at Cranbourne and winning well from Young Liam. She went 0.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark in that race, which is three lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. Ben Allen rides and can box seat from the inside barrier.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 1 MISS SANTORINI ($3.75)
MISS SANTORINI should be hard to beat in Race 5. The five-year-old resumes off a two-month layoff but performs well on the fresh side and was a second up winner the last time she raced over the 1200m with that coming at Moe back in September. She is two from four at the distance and at her last start, the daughter of Eurozone was desperately unlucky over the 1600m at Sandown in a BenchMark 64 back in November. She draws to get the perfect trail from barrier 3 and the 3kg claim for the apprentice hoop, Dakota Keane, gets her down to a winnable weight.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8 No. 7 BOSSA NOVA LAD ($12)
BOSSA NOVA LAD is worth thought at the each-way quote in the final race of the day. The Gavin Bedggood-trained galloper could only manage 7th when resuming at Cranbourne over the 1600m on January 5 but his cause wasn’t helped after missing the start. He will improve off that run. At his last preparation, he copped a series of wet tracks but goes better on Good surfaces and is likely to strike that in this race. Despite missing out at Cranbourne, he does come in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner, while the step up in trip should suit.
