Sandown Tips 5/7/2023
BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)
Race 4 No. 4 LA VINA- ($4.80)
Nice return by LA VINA on June 14 and the Gavin Bedggood-trained galloper can go a couple of spots better at her second run back from a spell. He recent run came at Hillside on June 14 and she settled worse than midfield before being held up for a period of time early on in the straight. The daughter of Artie Schiller found some room from the 300m and produced the second fastest late splits, missing out by a half a length to Viviane. She will strip fitter for this and the 1200m suits as she is three from six at the trip. John Allen rides and the pair draw perfectly in barrier 3.
NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)
Race 3 No 2 FOREIGN RAIDER ($6)
FOREIGN RAIDER can go close in Race 3 of the day. The filly from the John Sadler stable drops down from a BenchMark 78 over the 1300m on June 10 and was resuming after more than a year off that day. She drew wide and settled last on what was a slow tempo. The daughter of Tarzino looked to be working into it and produced the second fastest 400m-200m split before just peaking on her run. She will strip fitter for this and at her initial campaign back in 2022, she finished 3rd behind Tijuana in the ANZAC Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last year. She draws better this time around and the step up to the 1600m suits.
NEXT BEST 🥈(EACH-WAY)
Race 5 No. 1 THE GAUCH- ($10.20)
Wouldn’t mind having something each-way on THE GAUCH in Race 5. The newcomer to the David Noonan stable didn’t do much when resuming over the 1000m on June 10, finishing 6th of seven runners behind Starry Legend. That came in a BenchMark 100 Saturday race and he did produce the fastest last 200m in what was his first run in just under a year. He has been a notable improver on benchmark figures in the past when second up and has finished top two in five of seven at the trip. Worth thought with the 2kg claimer, Luke Campbell, to ride.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 7 No 4 JUCCONI- ($10)
JUCCONI shapes as an each-way player in Race 7. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained galloper has had the two runs off a long break and needed the run first up before working home well for 6th behind Riverplate on June 14 over the 1300m. He went two lengths faster than standard benchmark that day and at his previous campaign five-length improver at this stage, setting a personal best when going 11.8 lengths faster than standard, finishing runner-up behind Skywolf. The son of Nicconi will get back from the barrier and just needs an even tempo or better to challenge them late.
