Sandown Tips 15/2/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 4 No. 1 PACIFIC RUBY – ($2.15)

PACIFIC RUBY can go on with the job in Race 4. The four-year-old is unbeaten since crossing to the Maher/Eustace camp last year and resumed with a win at Flemington over the 1200m at the Rapid Racing meeting on January 20. She reeled in her rivals that day and should be open to improvement at her second run this time in. Jamie Kah rides and the daughter of Kermadec was a second up winner at Hillside over the 1400m at her last preparation.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1 No. 9 SKYWRITER – ($2.10)

SKYWRITER should be hard to beat in the opening race after a debut performance that saw her finish runner-up at Moe over the 1214m on January 24. The filly from the Chris Waller stable settled just worse than midfield in the small field that day before producing the fastest last 200m to land half a length of Skepticism, putting a gap on the 3rd placegetter, who has since claimed his Maiden at Kilmore. She went 3.8 lengths slower than standard on debut, which is the second best figure that any horse in this race has produced. Improvement to come at her second start and with Craig Williams in the saddle, the daughter of Written Tycoon can get the job done.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 6 No. 3 LLOYD’S CROWN – ($23)

Best Value comes up in Race 6 and LLOYD’S CROWN can give a bit of cheek at nice odds. The four-year-old normally takes a bit of time to get going and was off the mark when resuming here on Boxing Day but showed improvement at Moonee Valley on January 28, placing 3rd in this grade behind Rebel Dane. He was posted wide that day and overraced but stuck on. The Rebecca Waymouth-trained galloper should be nearing peak fitness and saves ground from the inside barrier with Laura Lafferty to ride. She is two from six for the stable, providing a 155% profit on turnover for punters.
