BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 4 No. 1 NORTHERN BARRAGE- ($2.25)

NORTHERN BARRAGE can go one spot better than a last start effort that saw him finish runner-up in the Bendigo St Leger Trial (2200m). The Michael Kent-trained galloper settled worse than midfield in that race and was held up from the 400m to the 200m before landing three lengths behind Promises Kept, who won’t be seen here. He meets six of the contenders from that race and had the measure of the others, while the 2400m looks like it will suit.

Race 5 No.9 RUNNING BY- ($2.40)

RUNNING BY can get the job done in the VOBIS Sires Guineas. The promising filly from the Maher/Eustace camp might have a bit of upside on some of these and really caught the eye at her second start for the stable, coming from well back in the Bendigo Guineas (1400m) to finish runner-up behind Waltz On By. The daughter of Impending gets out to the 1600m and should be ready to peak at her third run back.

Race 9 No. 14 EAGLES CRAG- ($4.80)

EAGLES CRAG can go close in the final event of the day at Sandown. The Archie Alexander-trained galloper has had two runs this time in, finishing 4th on both occasions. He botched the start here last time and was held up at the top of the straight before flashing home behind Faretti. Third up at his last preparation, the son of Fastnet Rock improved significantly on benchmark figures when placing at Caulfield. With even luck from the wide barrier, he can run over the top of these.
