Swan Hill Tips 09/04/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 4 CALLAWADDA- ($3.05)
We stretch out over the 2400m in the opener and CALLAWADDA can break through at his third career start. The Ballarat galloper seemed to enjoy the step up to the 2100m at Horsham on March 22 and worked home well from a midfield spot to just miss behind Catching Stars. A slight firmer in the early betting, the son of Fiorente gives the impression that the step to the 2400m will suit.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6 No.1 MAX MERCURY- ($4.65)
Race 6 is over the 2400m and MAX MERCURY looks suited. He wasn’t disgraced at Sandown two starts ago over the distance in a BenchMark 70 before dropping to this grade at Bendigo on March 14, placing 8th over the 2200m. His cause wasn’t helped as they went very slow early on but he was able to produce the fastest last 200m to land three lengths away. The seven-year-old might be able to settle a tad closer in the run from the better barrier this time around and will be strong at the business end.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 3 BERRY FOXIE- ($8)
BERRY FOXIE can be an improver in Race 5. The Henry Dwyer-trained galloper has had just the one run this time in, placing 4th at Warrnambool over the 1400m. She was back in that race before working home well to finish four lengths away, going 2.6 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start benchmark figure of any runner. Second up last time, the four-year-old improved eight lengths on figures before going on to claim a couple of races. She just needs to find a spot with cover early on from the wide draw.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7 No. 4 KING OF THE BOUNTY- ($15.20)
Best Value comes up in Race 7 and KING OF THE BOUNTY is worth a play at the each-way quote. The six-year-old stepped out at Wagga when resuming on March 28 and missed the start that day before making up some ground late in the piece to place 4th. He can improve off that run and was a winner the only time he raced at the track and trip, which was last October when going 2.6 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is more than three lengths better than the class average for this race. The son of Bel Esprit draws to get the run of the race from barrier 4.
