BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.2 DEVOCEAN ($2.40 with Palmerbet)
The Paul Shailer-trained DEVOCEAN has just his third race start today and looks set to improve even further here. Last start, the Ocean Park gelding went to the gates fitter from his debut run at Grafton where he had Aaron Bullock on board and led from barrier to box in a Maiden Plate at Port Macquarie over the mile trip. After being clearly headed passing the 100m mark, he kicked back strongly to regain the lead and went on to claim the winner’s purse. He ran that out, 4.6 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best effort in this field by 4 lengths. His main danger here is King Kikau (who won his last start and was our Next Best tip that day). He is also third-up and has drawn the fence. We will run with Devocean here however who has just as much upside and should find the lead without any trouble and will prove hard to run down today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6; No.6 CONVINCEBILITY ($4.80 with bet365)
Having his second start for the Kris Lees stable, CONVINCEBILITY is second-up today and looks well placed for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Hellbent gelding was fresh off a 21-week absence and after winning both trials, came out and knocked-over an 1100m Maiden field at Port Macquarie. With Darryl McLellan in the saddle, he finished far too strong for his 12 rivals that day, taking it out by more than a length on the line. He ran the trip, 4.6 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this line-up and a new personal best as well. He looks like he means business this preparation and Lees has him firing on all cylinders. McLellan sticks with him today and nicely drawn in gate five, he will take beating here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 1: No.2 CLAPTONE ($5.50 with BlueBet)
The Kempsey-based galloper CLAPTONE has finally found his mojo this preparation and looks well placed here to bring up the hat-trick today. The Outreach gelding has won his past two in BM66 company at Port Macquarie and Armidale where Mikayla Weir was aboard for both wins. Today, he welcomes a new rider as apprentice, Camile Houlgatte jumps aboard for the first time and is no stranger to success, (having ridden a winner and two runner-up placings at last Friday’s Quirindi meeting). The five-year-old has placed here previously and is in winning form now. With a trouble-free run here, he can give this contest a real shake today.
