Race 4: No.9 BEAR’S A STAR ($7.50 with bet365)

Locally-trained by Glen Milligan, BEAR’S A STAR resumes off a lengthy 22-week absence but should still give them something to beat today. Last start, the Stratum Star gelding finished off a short two-start campaign by breaking through for his maiden win, here over 1007m. On fresh legs today, Zac Wadick sticks with the three-year-old after steering him to that maiden win and from gate two today, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and will be hard to hold out from there.

Race 6: No.6 GOLDEN BREEZE ($7 with bet365)

The Port Macquarie galloper, GOLDEN BREEZE, has won two of his past three starts and in consistent form this preparation, looks a sound investment in this contest today. Last start, the Smart Missile gelding teamed-up with Jeff Kehoe for the 17th time which resulted in a big win, here in a BM58 over 1250m. He settled mid-field and simply finished too strong for them, going on to win by 1.5 lengths on the line. He steps-up sharply in grade today but has the runs on the board to suggest he can match it with this lot. Kehoe sticks with him and from gate three, he can give this contest a real shake.

Race 5: No.5 APACHE DOC ($14.20 with BoomBet)

Muswellbrook galloper APACHE DOC is in top-shelf form and yet to miss a top-two finish this preparation, looks ‘overs’ in this contest today. Last start, the Duporth gelding made it third-time lucky (this campaign) when he broke through for his maiden win, here over the mile trip. A big drifter in the race ($9 – $19), Matthew Palmer settled him mid-field on the fence and simply finished too strong for them, grabbing victory on the line. Trainer Ben Lees has him firing on all cylinders this time in and with Palmer remaining aboard today, he looks sensational each-way value in this event.
