Townsville Tips 21/02/2023

Our form expert provides Townsville tips for today’s horse racing at Townsville’s Cluden Park Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1:  No.1  ROWEINER’S DANCE  ($2.10 with bet365)

Local galloper ROWEINER’S DANCE boasts track superiority here and will take plenty of beating today. Last start, the Sidestep gelding brough up the hat-trick when he beat (his only rival) in a two-horse contest, here over the 1000m sprint. He beat home Average Jane by three lengths, covering the trip, half a length quicker than benchmark, more than seven lengths faster than his only rival. That was also a new personal best for the two-year-old. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. His four career starts have all been over the 1000m trip at Cluden Park and he just seems to getting better with each run. Young apprentice, Isabella Teh steered him home last start and has the reins again today. He is our best for the meeting.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No.3  PALENCIA  ($6.50 with Palmerbet)

Premiership winning trainer Roy Chillemi saddles-up PALENCIA here who is second-up today and ticks all the boxes and looks great value to take out this event. Last start, the Palentino gelding was fresh after six months in the paddock when finishing fourth behind Aspen Lad, here over an unsuitable 1000m sprint. Despite missing a podium finish, he still posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Rachel Shred is a regular rider for the Chillemi stable and she boasts a solid record with the four-year-old, scoring two wins and as many minor placings from her five previous rides. The Atherton rider has the reins again today and from gate five, the gelding maps to settle just behind the pace. He is a six-time winner at the track and already a two-time winner when second-up. Currently showing each-way odds, he looks a smart investment here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.5  FREDDY BARBAROSSA  ($7.50 with Ladbrokes)

Local galloper FREDDY BARBAROSSA has won two of his past three starts and looks poised for back-to-back victories here today. Last start, the Holy Roman Emperor gelding came off an out-of-character performance (when finishing unplaced) and bounced back to the winner’s circle with a win against his own age group, here over the 1200m trip. With ‘lethal’ Lacey Morrison aboard, he took control at the top of the straight and held off all challenges to take home the major prize that day. Both career wins have come on his home track and Morrison sticks with him for this assignment. Up against similar company today and carrying the same weight, he looks set for back-to-back victories here at very generous each-way odds.
