Race 4:  No.4  MYSTERY ‘N’ MAGIC  ($2.70 with Palmerbet)

The Roy Chillemi-trained MYSTERY ‘N’ MAGIC is in career-best form and looks well placed here to bring-up his fourth Cluden Park win today. Last start, the Rothesay gelding recorded career-win number eight when he destroyed his rivals in a 1400m Open Hcp at Cairns. Fourth-up that day, he covered the last 600m, 5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here and posted the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the race as well. Jason Taylor has been in the saddle for his past three runs which resulted in two wins and a close-up second behind stablemate Palencia. Tolga’s top trainer (Chillemi) has this fellow high-flying lately and he looks the goods here today.

Race 5:  No.4  PHANTOM SPIRIT  ($2.15 with TAB)

Sharlee Hoffman saddles-up PHANTOM SPIRIT here who looks on target to bring up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom gelding was second-up when he did enough to take out a Class 3 Plate, here over 1000m on a Heavy 8 that day. Heavily backed ($4.20 into $2.80), he gave supporters no cause for concern as ‘lethal’ Lacey Morrison drove him to the line, leading all the way. Unbeaten in two starts with the Hoffman stable, Morrison was aboard for both victories and sticks with him today. He is stepping up in grade here and takes on the 1200m challenge for the second time but his third-up record (a win and two runner-up finishes) suggests he will still take beating today.

Race 9:  No.11  CATCH DIS  ($6.50 with bet365)

Local galloper CATCH DIS has returned to the track in great touch and fitter for three runs back, looks a genuine winning chance here. Last start, the Churchill filly came off her maiden win (on this track) when she was caught wide and gave them too much start but finished strongly to claim fourth prize in a Class 1 Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint. She ran that out, 5 lengths slower than benchmark, setting a new personal best and that was the best last-start effort in this line-up. Lethal Lacey (Morrison) was aboard for both runs this time in and remains in the saddle today. Ideally drawn in gate two, she maps to settle mid-field on the fence and provided she gets a clear crack at them, the three-year-old can get the job done here at odds.
