BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.6 MYSTERY ‘N’ MAGIC ($4.20 with Ladbrokes)
The Roy Chillemi-trained MYSTERY ‘N’ MAGIC has been a bad-luck charm for us this year (picking him in almost every start he hasn’t won, and he has saluted three times to date), and if he fails to deliver today, we will put the cue in the rack. Last start, the Rothesay gelding eluded us again when he clobbered his Open class rivals, here over the mile trip. Crossing the line more than two lengths ahead of them, he ran the mile out, 1.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 2 lengths, which was a new personal best for him. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. He appears to be back on top now and already boasts four victories at the Cluden Park track. Jason Taylor has a 32% winning strike rate with the Chillemi stable and sticks with the five-year-old here, having already steered him to three of his nine career wins to date. Fingers crossed our run of outs with him end today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2: No.6 INDICTMENT ($4.80 with Picklebet)
The Steve Massingham-trained INDICTMENT resumes today after eight months in the paddock and boasting a top-shelf record since arriving at the stable, he looks a serious player in this contest. Last start, the Street Boss gelding ended his first Nth Qld campaign by beating all but one home in a BM70 over 1250m on his (new) home track in Cairns. He ran his last 600m, 3.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, second best behind the Albi Molino-trained Coolmeans (who is yet to win when second-up). Ryan Wiggins has the reins today and boasts a 25% winning strike rate with the Massingham stable. The stable have fitted a tongue tie for the first time today and from gate six, he maps to settle in his usual role, near mid-field with cover. The former Victorian hasn’t seen the track since October last year but is yet to miss a podium finish in six starts for Massingham. Already a winner when first-up, he can give this a real shake today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8: No.6 BAY OF BENGAL ($7 with bet365)
Local galloper BAY OF BENGAL has been in career-best form since making the move from NSW last year and with eight-straight podium finishes next to his name, he will take beating here today. Last start, the Sepoy gelding was three starts into this campaign when fourth-up, he finished best to claim his first victory this time in by taking out a BM65 Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint. He ran that out, 3 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this line-up. Graeme Kliese has been aboard for the galloper’s past three starts and boasts a personal record of two wins and three minor placings from his six previous rides. He has become a track specialist since arriving and is a three-time winner here over the trip. The bagmen have him at very generous odds today so it may pay to watch the betting closer to post time.
