BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.7  SWAGGER  ($4.25 with BoomBet)

Another from the Mitchell Beer stable is SWAGGER who lines up here second-up and his resume suggests he will be right in the thick of things in this contest. Last start, the Postponed gelding resumed after a 20-week spell when he did it tough, but still finished on top of them in a BM58 Hcp over 1175m at Albury. He drew out that day (gate 8 of 10), and was trapped three-deep without cover to the turn. He straightened as the widest runner and despite covering more ground than the early explorers, he did enough to take home the major prize. He has placed three times from six previous second-up appearances and boasts a win and three minor placings from his five starts here. Ideally-drawn today in gate two, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen (with cover) and fitter from that big first-up run, he looks a serious chance for back-to-back victories today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.2  OKAMI MISS  ($4 with bet365)

Mitchell Beer shows OKAMI MISS the Wagga track for the first time today and second-up here looks a genuine contender for the major prize. Last start, the Shalaa filly was fresh off a six-month absence when she beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 1000m at Albury. She ran that out, 5 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. Ideally drawn in gate two today, she maps to settle better than mid-field (with cover) and after the claim, carries the same weight as last start. Already a winner when second-up, she has strong claims here to suggest she can give this a real shake today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4:  No.5  REGION TIME  ($8 with bet365)

Canberra galloper REGION TIME has found the podium four times this preparation and looks set here to add another top-three finish to her resume. Last start, the Territories filly flew home from the back of the field to grab second prize in a Class 2 Hcp over 1500m at Albury. She ran her last 600m, 8.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by more than 8 lengths. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Down in grade today, that form puts her in good stead for this contest. Quayde Krogh has ridden the filly to both career wins to date and returns here for today’s assignment. She does no early work from gate two and with good early speed here, she will be finishing strongly.
