BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.5 DOOGAN’S DESIGN ($5.50 with Picklebet)
Wodonga trainer, Craig Widdison heads north of the border today and saddles-up DOOGAN’S DESIGN who is in great touch of late and looks every chance of bringing up the hat-trick here. Last start, the Master Of Design mare came off a Class 1 win at Albury when she franked that effort by going back-to-back and winning a Class 2 Hcp, here on the Riverside track. With Simon Miller backing up off that Albury win, she led from barrier to box and crossed the line almost three lengths ahead of them that day. She draws well here in gate five and maps top be up on the speed again. Unbeaten over the 1200m and already a winner here, she will be at her peak today and take a power of beating.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.4 SIZZLING CAT ($5 with Palmerbet)
Another local product here is the Gary Colvin-trained SIZZLING CAT who is third-up today and well placed for his sixth career-win in this contest. Last start, the Sizzling gelding finished just behind the money again when he took home fourth prize in a BM70 over 1300m at Wodonga. Back on home turf today, he steps-up to a more suitable distance and has a new pilot with Danny Beasley aboard for the first time. Colvin slaps the blinkers back on him today and from gate four, he maps to slot in just behind the early speed. Already a winner here over the trip and fitter for those two runs back, he looks a genuine winning chance today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 2: No.3 LAUNCH MODE ($6 with Ladbrokes)
Locally-trained by Rodger Waters, LAUNCH MODE has improved with every start this time in and after four starts, he should be ready to break through today. Last start, the Smart Missile gelding looked a winning chance but just faded on his run, hanging on for third prize, here in a 1200m Maiden. Fitter after those four runs, Waters puts him over further ground today which just might do the trick here. Josh Richards has steered him to both podium finishes to date and sticks with him again today. Nicely drawn in gate five, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and rock-hard fit here, he can grab that illusive first win today.
