Race 4:  No.6  PERSIAN DANCER

Locally-trained by Gary Covin, PERSIAN DANCER is in great touch this time in and looks ideally placed here for back-to-back victories. Last start, the Choisir mare returned from a stint in the city and looked more at home when she took out a BM66, here over today’s trip with Danny Beasley aboard. Beasley has now ridden the mare to three of her four career wins to date and steers the ship again today. She is up in grade here but drops in weight and is well served at the barrier, drawing gate three which sees her settling just behind the pace. Already a two-time winner on her home track, she looks the goods here.

Race 8:  No.3  GUNDY GUY

Todd Smart makes the trip across from Canberra and saddles-up GUNDY GUY here who is second-up and shooting for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Capitalist gelding was fresh off a six-month absence and showing no signs of fatigue, finished best to claim victory in a 1000m Maiden on this track. With Billy Owen in the saddle that day, he drew wide (9 of 13) and was caught three-deep to the turn but still had enough left in the tank to take over inside the final 200m and crosse the line almost a length clear in the end. The three-year-old gets the gun-run from gate one today and maps to be box-seating on settling. He is well-bred (out of a Your Song mare) and with a clear run home, can remain unbeaten this preparation.

Race 1:  No.1  EXTRAVAGENT LAD 

Third-up today, the Scott Collings-trained EXTRAVAGENT LAD ticks all the important boxes here and looks a serious competitor in this contest. Last start, the Xtravagant gelding showed improvement off his first-up effort when he held on for third prize in Open company, here over the 1000m sprint. Fitter for two runs back today, Nick Heywood returns to steer the ship after riding him to victory at Forbes to end his previous campaign. Today is his third run back after a lengthy 18 months off the scene. He placed in his only start at this track and placed twice in two previous third-up runs. He is up in weight today but drops sharply in grade and getting all the favours from gate one, he should prove hard to beat here.
