Race 7:  No.3  LYRICAL BEAUTY

The Matt Dale-trained LYRICAL BEAUTY is second-up today and returning to the country scene, looks far better placed in this contest. Last start, Dale took the Your Song filly to the city and locked horns with Class 3 company in a 1000m Midway Hcp at Randwick where it proved to be a bridge to far for the three-year-old, finishing down the track, four lengths behind the winner that day. This is her first look at the Wagga track, however both career wins to date have come on country tracks. Danny Beasley dons the silks for this assignment after steering the filly to both of those previous victories. This is a big drop in grade today and already a winner when second-up, she looks the best of the day.

Race 3:  No.2  FREE STATE

Goulburn galloper, FREE STATE is third-up today where he is having his second start on the Wagga track and ticks the right boxes that has him right in contention for victory in this contest. Last start, the Headwater gelding came off a crushing first-up win on his home track when he stepped-up sharply in grade and took on Open company, finishing last of the six runners over 1000m at Canberra. He returns to something a lot easier today and after the claim, carries a fair weight for this class. Jade Mc Kenzie rode him to that big win at Goulburn and is back to partner him today. Nicely drawn in gate four, he can bounce back in this company.

Race 5:  No.1  MR SAXABEAT

Team Hayes saddle-up MR SAXABEAT here and racing on NSW soil for the first time, looks well placed to take home the chocolates in this contest. Last start, the Hardham gelding made the step-up to the 1600m successfully when he beat home a BM58 field at Echuca over the mile trip. Second-up carrying 60kgs, he settled just behind the speed and in the run home, finished too strong for them, crossing the line by more than a length to take the spoils. Rose Hammond was aboard that day and makes the trip to Wagga today where she will steer the ship again. Ideally drawn in gate three, the Lindsay Park galloper maps to settle better than mid-field with cover and third-up here, he looks the best of today’s topweights and should prove hard beat.
