BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.6 CHEAP GAS
Mudgee visitor, CHEAP GAS comes off a 10-week break in search of his first win and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can it done today. After finishing runner-up at his first two starts, the Santos gelding ended his first campaign finishing fourth in a 1200m Maiden at Bathurst. The last 100m saw him out that day. He finished third in a recent trial in preparation for this event. Jake Pracey-Holmes has been aboard for all three starts to date and sticks with him for this assignment. Ideally drawn in gate three today, he can turn his track debut here into a winning one.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.8 SANBANO
Wyong trainer, Damien Lane makes the 400klm trip west today and saddles-up SANBANO here who has found her mojo and looks set for back-to-back wins in this contest. Last start, the Maurice mare made it third time lucky (this preparation) when she broke through for her maiden win over the mile trip at Newcastle. Well ridden by Ash Morgan that day, he sat right behind the leader to the turn, then eased off the fence and gradually got the better of the front-runner and went on to win by more than a length on the line. She gets all the favours here from gate one where she maps to be box-seating again. Patrick Scorse is the new pilot today and at her peak now, she looks the one to beat here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8: No.3 PYROMANIA
The former Bjorn Baker-trained PYROMANIA has his first start for the Clint Lundholm stable today and third-up this preparation, looks a serious contender in this contest. Last start, the Snitzel gelding showed a ton of improvement when finishing third in a BM58 over 1290m at Orange. Coming from mid-field on the turn, he (briefly) took the lead but was swamped by swoopers over the final 50m and had to settle for the minor prize on the day. Drawn the middle of the field today in gate nine, he strips fitter for those two runs back and should give us a bold showing at odds.
