BEST BET 🏆
Race 4: No.4 AUSSIE PHAROAH ($3.90 with Palmerbet)
The Mudgee-based galloper AUSSIE PHAROAH makes his Wellington debut today and looks a big chance for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the American Pharoah gelding came off some unlucky runs to break through for his maiden win on a soft track at Dubbo. Settling second in the run, he had the job of taking the field up to the tearaway leader (Aero Nautica) who had a break of six lengths rounding the turn. With Aaron Bullock aboard, he reeled the leader in and won by almost a length on the line. Bullock sticks with him today as he draws wide for this contest. If he can overcome the gate, he has the form on the board to give this a real shake.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.3 MAGIC PROPHET ($2 with Bet Right)
The Todd Howlett-trained MAGIC PROPHET is four starts into this campaign and improving with each start, now looks ready to win. Last start, the Divine Prophet gelding found the podium for the first time this preparation when he beat all but one home in a 1400m Maiden at Scone. Leading from barrier rise, he fought tooth and nail in the run home but found one a little better on the day. He sees the Wellington track for the first time today and has a new rider on board as Aaron Bullock takes the reins for the first time. He should be at his peak for this and with a trouble-free run, he can take this contest out today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.8 TOULON FACTOR ($5 with Ladbrokes)
Trained at Dubbo by Brett Robb, TOULON FACTOR is in good touch this time in and while stepping up in grade today, still looks a good show at odds here. Last start, the son of American sire The Factor came off back-to-back podium finishes when he just missed making it a hat-trick, finishing fourth in a BM58 over 1418m on his home track. The weight was his enemy that day, carrying 62kgs (even after a 3kg claim), and yet only beaten 1.5 lengths on the line. Facing Open company for the first time today, he drops significantly in weight here, carrying 7kgs less than last start. Clayton Gallagher is back on board after steering the six-year-old to two runner-up finishes from his three previous rides on the grey gelding. A trouble-free run here should see him fight out the finish today.
