BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 5 No. 6 WYATT EARP- ($5)

WYATT EARP can go close in Race 5 of the afternoon. The three-year-old was ok when resuming at Mornington on March 21 before heading to Pakenham on March 30, jumping to the 2000m and battling away into 8th position. The Philip Stokes-trained galloper should find this easier and while he was moderate at Pakenham, he did go five lengths faster on benchmark figures than any other horse in this race. Third up last time the son of Dundeel was a five length improver when running over the 2050m at Moe and is right in this.

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)

Race 7 No 8 MISS ATHENA- ($6)

This might be one for MISS ATHENA. The locally trained galloper was a winner earlier this preparation and narrowly missed out at the track and trip three starts ago, putting a four length gap on the rest. At her most recent start, the Dave O’Prey-trained mare stepped out at Wagga in a BenchMark 66 and was held up in the straight en route to running 4th behind Oceans Of Stamina, going 2.7 lengths slower than standard. Anything around that mark should see her go very close here.

Race 8 No.1 LORD SUNDOWNER – ($7.50)

LORD SUNDOWNER can chalk up an overdue win when he steps out in Race 8. The eight-year-old has finished runner-up in three of his past five starts and narrowly missed at Benalla on April 6 behind Super Sting. He hit the front early in the straight before just being grabbed late. A winner at his only start at the track and trip, the large claim gets him down to a winnable weight and he shouldn’t be too far away in the run from barrier 8.
