BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.2 OAKFIELD WARATAH ($4 with bet365)
Local trainer Kristen Buchanan saddles-up OAKFIELD WARATAH here who is second-up and looks right for back-to-back wins in this contest today. Last start, the Dissident gelding was fresh off a lengthy six-month absence when he finished best to take out a BM64 Hcp, here over 1350m. With Koby Jennings in charge that day, he covered the trip, 2 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best effort in this line-up. He meets similar company today and while carrying 2kgs more here, he has drawn much better in gate two and maps to be parked right behind the speed on settling. Already a winner when second-up and two-time winner at the track and distance, he looks the best of the day.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.12 MISTY DREAMS ($3.80 with Ladbrokes)
The Kim Waugh-trained MISTY DREAMS is as honest as they come and deserves to break through here today. Last start, the Sebring mare resumed off a 19-week spell when she finished a close-up third, here in a Maiden Plate over 1100m. She drew wide and settled near mid-field and with Jay Ford on board, finished strongly to grab the bronze medal, beaten half a length on the line. The mare ran her last 600m, 5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 7 lengths. She remains on home soil today and has a similar challenge, drawn wide again. The four-year-old has finished runner-up on three occasions when second-up and with Ford sticking with her today, she looks a solid chance of breaking her run of outs today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.3 STAR IMPACT ($4.60 with BlueBet)
Newcastle galloper STAR IMPACT is third-up today and looks a winning chance in this contest. Last start, the Mikki Isle mare improved greatly to beat all but one home in a BM64 Hcp over 1250m on her home track. She ran her last 600m, 3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here. She also recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race with Aaron Bullock having his fourth ride on the mare. Bullock sticks with her today and drawn nicely in gate five, will give the four-year-old every chance from there.
