Goulburn Racing Tips 6 Oct 2026 — can Pride’s pair break through?
Opening
There’s a little pattern on this Goulburn program that’s hard to ignore: Joseph Pride turns up with two chances in the staying maiden handicap and one again later, and his overall strike at this track is sharp for the amount of times he’s bothered coming here. You don’t cart them down the Hume for the scenery.
We’ve only got four races in the feed for today, all on the turf, and the card reads like classic country Monday racing: a benchmark over 1750m, two maidens that hinge on who settles and who stays, then a big, messy maiden plate sprint to close. I’ve kept these Goulburn racing tips opinionated and practical: who I’d back, who can beat them, and where I’d rather keep my wallet shut.
Goulburn — the setup
We don’t have an official going listed in the racecard, so I’m treating this meeting as a “watch the first two” day: keep an eye on whether leaders keep finding or whether the swoopers are getting their chance when they peel out wider.
Course form is thin across today’s fields. Most runners have one or two prior trips here, so treat those as clues, not gospel.

Race-by-race
Race 1: Goulburn Produce (Bm58) — 14:10, 1750m
I’m with Boujee Gold. The set-up screams “up-and-coming 3yo gets the right run” rather than another grinding 7yo trying to lift off the canvas. He’s the only horse in the race arriving off a last-start win (form 58531), and he gets in with 121.2. From gate 8 he’ll need a steer, but in these 1750m races at Goulburn you can still win from a touch wider if you roll into the right line and build from the 700m.
The obvious danger is Celestial Grace for Portelli with Adkins aboard. She’s got the most trustworthy recent profile in the race (445153) and she’s already placed on her only start at Goulburn. Adkins also wins plenty of races here and you’ll see him on the right part of the track more often than not.
Astrogazer is the other one you have to respect for “keeps turning up and running well enough”. He’s placed in one of his two Goulburn runs, and Collett is a plus, but that 130.0 on the back asks for a proper effort late.
Staking: Win bet Boujee Gold. Small saver quinella with Celestial Grace if you’re the cautious type.
Race 2: Goulburn Express Freight Mdn Hcp — 14:45, 1750m
This is the meeting’s best betting race because you can actually trust what you’re seeing. In Circles keeps knocking on the door (243323) and the 90-day snapshot backs up the “ready to win” read: four runs for four placings in that window, and an average finish of 2.25. He doesn’t need to improve much, he just needs the right 300m.
The map is the only real headache. He’s drawn 11, so Adkins has to make an early decision: snag back and ride for luck, or roll forward and risk being trapped wide. With Pride training, I’d expect a positive ride, even if it means sitting outside the leader. Pride’s record at Goulburn is strong for the small sample, winning two of his four runners here and placing three. That’s not “specialist” territory, but it’s more than a coincidence.
Red Planet Bar is the danger. Freedman and Collett is a serious country combo and the horse has already placed on his only run at this track. If he gets cover midfield and they overdo it up front, he’s the one that can launch.
Don’t dismiss Frankie’s Boy either. Waterhouse and Bott in a maiden handicap off only three career starts (47-5) is a classic “placement” move, and gate 1 with Costin gives them options to hold a spot and make it a staying test.
Staking: Win bet In Circles. Exacta saver In Circles to Red Planet Bar.

Race 3: Kirk’s Bridge Farm Country Boosted Mdn Hcp — 15:25, 1312m
The puzzle here is tempo. We’ve got a few that have shown enough to take a position but not enough to put one away. That often turns these 1300m maidens into a sit-and-sprint, and that can make the barriers matter more than raw ability.
Boann is my pick mainly because she gets two things I like in this sort of race: the inside draw (gate 1) and a light weight (121.2). She’s only had the one run (form 7), so we’re betting on improvement, but a horse that can hold the fence and make others work around them often outruns the “one start, ran seventh” headline.
The danger is On The Fly for Collings with Louise Day. The horse has been mixing it at this track (two runs here for one placing), and that’s at least some evidence he handles the Goulburn straights and turns. Day’s Goulburn record is solid enough that you trust her to put the horse in the race at the right time.
If you want a blowout profile, keep Rebel Terra in mind. Third on debut (form 3) is usually enough to win plenty of country maidens next start, even from a wide-ish alley (11), provided the jockey booking isn’t a late “Non Runner” situation again.
Staking: Small win bet Boann, or each-way if the market drifts. This isn’t a race to unload on.
Race 4: Divalls Earthmoving Mdn Plate — 16:05, 1203m
The market is going to lean hard to the big-name stables, and that’s fair, but this is still a maiden plate with a stack of unknowns and a couple of awkward gates. I want the horse with the cleanest recent signal, not the flashiest CV.
Lucsain is the one I’d rather be with. He’s only got the one run and he ran second (form 2), and the Pfieffer and Collett combo is always a serious intent sign at this level. Pfieffer’s numbers at Goulburn aren’t pretty for winners, but he places two-thirds of his runners here from nine starters, and that matters in a maiden where plenty don’t fire.
Romancastle is the danger. Maher doesn’t waste bullets in country maidens and Louise Day is a positive booking, but gate 13 means you’re asking her to either snag right out or burn early and risk doing too much work.
The “watch for support” runner is Mayweather for Snowden. He’s a 5yo still in maidens, which tells its own story, but he’s at least had enough racing to know what’s going on and he draws barrier 1 to either lead or stalk. If the inside is gold early, he can stick around longer than the market expects.
Staking: Win bet Lucsain if the price is fair. If he’s crushed into an ugly quote, I’d rather watch and take notes for next start.
The plays
If you’re playing this card like a pro, you don’t try to force a bet in every race. You take the race where the form is most reliable, and you build around that.
NAP: In Circles (Race 2, 14:45). Four runs in the last 90 days for four placings tells you he’s holding his shape. Pride and Adkins is also the kind of pairing that rides to win, not to “get around”.
Value look: Boann (Race 3, 15:25). Gate 1 and a low weight can make a lightly-raced horse look like it suddenly learned to race. If she’s anything like reasonable odds, she’s the upset candidate.
Banker for multis: In Circles top two or top three (depending on products available). Even when he doesn’t win, he keeps putting himself in the frame.
Each-way angle: Celestial Grace (Race 1, 14:10). She’s placed on her only Goulburn start and arrives with a reliable form spine. If Boujee Gold has to do it tough from wide, she’s the one stalking.
Course angle worth repeating: when A Adkins shows up at Goulburn, take it seriously. He wins often enough here and he’s on live chances in Race 1, Race 2, Race 3 and Race 4. Keep a note of which lane he’s steering towards in the first two races because that will matter for the rest of the afternoon.
