Race 1: So You Pence In The Kosciuszko Mdn Plate, 1:25pm, 1531m

Harry The Thief is more speculative. His earlier-campaign form reads well, but there’s no run in our 90-day window to lean on, which usually points to a fresh horse off a let-up, sharp if he jumps and nobody presses him, less so if the sprint turns into a dash home. The one complicating Smichov’s claims is Divine Secrets. Peter Snowden’s mare hasn’t found her best form lately, no win in her last three and an average finish just outside fourth, but the booking of A Adkins matters. Race 4: GG Engineering Hcp (C2), 3:15pm, 1422m
Does Star Minerva’s dominant debut win hold up now she’s stepping into open handicap company against experienced rivals? That’s the question the market has to answer, because on raw figures she’s untouched: one start, one win, for a C Maher stable that has sent 22 runners to Goulburn for an 18% strike rate and put half of them in the placings. The step up in distance and grade is real, but so is the class edge a Maher-trained debut winner usually carries into a second start.
The alternative view belongs to Wolf Island. N F Gardner’s gelding already knows how to win at this course, his only run here produced exactly that, and his last four starts read as an honest trajectory rather than a stray result: two placings building into a win, with an average finish inside three across that run. She’s placed in four of her last five runs without quite getting the job done, a frustrating pattern but a properly consistent one, averaging better than second across that stretch. If the leaders go too hard early and get run down late, she’s the one sitting there to pounce.
Bold Conquer is the each-way alternative, having placed at his only run to date for Scott Collings, whose stable has sent 44 runners to this track for a 41% place rate, reliable without being spectacular.
