Race 1: Vines At 139 Country Boosted Hcp (C2) — 13:15, 1110m
Amaya’s Secret looks the right starting point because she’s already handled the place — she’s placed on her only Grafton run — and the recent form reads like a horse that’s still on the up (1–5–3–7–2 in the line, with that last-start second a clear “we’re ready” signal). Barrier 3 is perfect for an 1110m race where you don’t want to be making big decisions early.
The danger is Homeland. The profile is different — more of a “can pop up and win when it falls right” type — but he comes in off a win two runs back and gets in light at 121.2. If he lands one-out/one-back from gate 6 and they overdo it up front, he’s the one I can see mowing them down.
What I’d do: Win bet Amaya’s Secret. Small saver quinella with Homeland if you want protection in a race that could be decided by who lands the cleanest run.
Race 2: Nuturf Mdn Hcp — 13:50, 1553m
Here’s the question: do you take the two-time placegetter with the big weight, or do you side with something lighter that might simply be improving faster?
I’ll take the proven consistency and live with the impost. Spot On The Moon has only had the two starts and he’s run third both times — that’s a horse who puts himself in the fight. He’s also placed on his only start at Grafton, and the 90-day snapshot backs up what the eye says: two runs, two placings, average finish third. Gate 2 means Ashley Morgan can keep it simple: hold a position, don’t get strung up, and make the others go past.
Launcher is the danger. He’s got more exposed form (and that can be a negative in a maiden), but he’s been around the mark often enough to win one of these if he gets the right tempo. The draw (9) forces him to either snag back and swoop or work across and spend petrol — either way, he needs things to go right.
What I’d do: Spot On The Moon to win. If you’re playing multiples, I’d rather anchor him top-two than get cute looking for blowouts.
Race 3: Inspirations Paint Mdn Plate — 14:25, 1881m
This is the contrast race: one horse arrives with the “how has it not won yet?” profile, and the rest are either struggling to finish off or still learning how to race.
Always A Rainbow is the pick. Two starts, two seconds — that’s a proper pattern, not a fluke. She’s drawn gate 4, gets Ashley Morgan, and at 1881m I like that she’s already shown she can find the line strongly enough to be there when it matters. The 90-day form strip is as clean as you’ll see in a maiden: two runs for two placings, average finish second.
Righteous Brother is the obvious danger because he keeps turning up and being competitive (7–2–5–3–4). He’s not flashy, but he’s honest, and if Always A Rainbow happens to be a little one-pace late, Righteous Brother can grind past when others have cried enough.
What I’d do: Win bet Always A Rainbow. I’m not interested in laying her at this stage — she’s earned the right to be backed until she finally breaks through.
Race 4: Gjr Sheetmetal (Bm58) — 15:00, 2439m
The market problem (even without prices) is that punters tend to treat these country stayers like they’re all the same. They’re not. Some of them actually stay, some just get through the trip.
Redadel gets my vote because he’s one of the few with a positive Grafton note you can hang your hat on: he’s won here, and he’s also placed from two track visits. That’s only two runs so it’s not “specialist” territory — but it is evidence he handles the circuit. He also comes in off a win last start (the “…741” at the end of the form line), which is usually the right time to catch these BM58 types before the handicapper catches up.
The rider booking matters too. G Spokes has proper volume at Grafton (11 rides) and regularly gets horses into the finish here. From gate 6, he can be positive early and avoid being trapped in the wrong part of the race.
Vermeer is the danger. He’s drawn the paint (1), he’s placed on his only Grafton run, and his form suggests he’ll be thereabouts again (33–525). If the race turns into a sit-and-sprint, that inside run becomes gold and Redadel might have to do it the hard way.
What I’d do: Redadel win bet. I’d also consider a saver exacta/quinella with Vermeer because the map says those two can control a lot of the race from their draws.

Race 5: Clarence Valley Wholesalers Country Boosted Mdn Plate — 15:35, 1301m
The stable move angle matters here: M J Dunn is one of the more reliable Grafton trainers on the historical sample (six runners for two winners and four placings), and he turns up with a horse that simply keeps running into the money.
Joanjett has gone 2nd, 2nd, 2nd at the end of her form line. That’s not “unlucky” forever — it’s a sign she’s at the right level and due a race where she lands the split at the right time. Gate 3 gives Ashley Morgan options (and Morgan is already riding like a key player on this card). She doesn’t need to improve lengths; she just needs the run to be a touch cleaner than last time.
The danger is Jennibelle. She’s only had the one start and ran third, and she’s also placed on her only Grafton run. That’s a single data point, but it’s a nice one — and if she takes the natural second-start step, she’s the fresh horse with upside.
What I’d do: Joanjett to win. If you’re a cautious punter, play Joanjett to win and Jennibelle each-way rather than trying to outsmart the finish in a maiden.
The plays
NAP: Always A Rainbow (Race 3, 14:25). Two runs, two seconds, and the step to 1881m looks like it keeps her in her comfort zone rather than stretching her. She’s been finding the line — it’s time she found the win.
Value: Redadel (Race 4, 15:00). He’s already won at Grafton and comes here off a last-start win. With stayers at this level, I’d rather back the one who has shown he can both travel and finish.
Banker for multis: Spot On The Moon (Race 2, 13:50) top-two. Two career starts, two placings, soft draw — he’s the least complicated horse on the card from a punting perspective.
Each-way: Amaya’s Secret (Race 1, 13:15). She’s placed on her only Grafton run and her recent form says she’ll be in the finish again.
Course angle to keep: When Dunn brings one to Grafton, it’s rarely a sightseeing trip — and Joanjett’s “always there” profile is exactly the kind of horse that turns that stable’s good strike into collectable tickets.
